Jan. 10--Another two square miles of Buffalo have been put into the state's "Empire Zone" targeted investment program, opening the door to generous tax benefits for dozens of businesses and giving the city another tool to help expand its tax base.
Gov. George E. Pataki announced a second zone for the city during his "State of the State" address Wednesday. The zone will be 1,280 acres parceled across Buffalo's nine Common Council districts.
The zone covers big businesses, such as the defense contractor Astronics Corp. on Elmwood Avenue, to small businesses, such as the EduKids day care center on Hertel Avenue and the Rue ...
