Jan. 13--Foreclosures by lenders last year jumped 34 percent in Lucas County, while those filed for delinquent taxes decreased.
About a third of the properties were sold at sheriff's auction.
The figures from the county sheriff's office illustrate the debt problems of area residents. In a year that area bankruptcies soared to phenomenal heights, more banks and other lenders had to take legal action to recoup their money from delinquent loans. Such an increase has occurred across the state.
