Aug. 13--OCEAN SPRINGS, Miss. -- A technology developed at Ole Miss to hear agricultural pests now helps home inspectors track down termites.
"It's a very violent, aggressive, crunching, chewing noise," said Bob Rushing, who co-owns one of two HomeSafe Inspection franchises in South Mississippi.
Wearing a set of headphones, Rushing pushes a listening probe either under a baseboard or directly through the wallboard in a suspicious area. The sound picked up by the sensitive microphone is filtered and amplified through a computer that recognizes termites.
