A new slew of devices promises to give you better-looking abs _ just in time to target post-holiday remorse from weight gain and lack of exercise. They're sold mostly through TV "infomercials" under names such as AbTronic, Ab Energizer and others.
These devices use EMS _ electrical muscle stimulation. Electrical impulses travel from the devices to the abdominal muscles and stimulate them.
How they work: Apply gel or water to the side of the belt that touches your skin, strap on the belt, flip the switch or press the button, and voila, you get a workout without a single rep.
Or so they say. Some debate the claims.
