Battery-powered computers are very close to providing the same capabilities as mainstream desktop systems; even color displays are becoming affordable. And in the one area where notebook-sized computers have come up short of customer expectations, battery life, things are looking up.
In the past few years, typical battery life has increased from about two hours to over four hours. In the next two years, battery life is expected to increase to as much as 12 hours, approaching the point where the battery can become invisible to the user.
