Aug. 17--Car insurer Geico has returned to New Jersey, 28 years after leaving the state and its notoriously messy insurance regulations.
The Maryland-based company, the nation's fifth-largest auto insurer, began issuing policies yesterday.
Officials with the McGreevey administration and industry observers hailed the carrier's reentry into the market as proof that the state's recent efforts in auto-insurance reform were succeeding in luring carriers, increasing competition, and lowering costs for drivers.
