Aug. 17--ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. -- Microsoft founder Bill Gates' personal investment company has agreed to help PNM finance its planned acquisition of Texas-based utility owner TNP Enterprises.
PNM Resources said Monday in a news release that the deal with Cascade Investment LLC, the company that handles Gates' personal portfolio, is the first step in funding the $1.024 billion purchase of TNP.
Cascade, which already owns more than 9 percent of PNM's stock, has agreed to buy $100"million in debt securities to help finance the deal.
