Aug. 18--FORT WORTH, Texas -- City leaders gave an early nod Tuesday to drilling for natural gas near Alliance Airport, Gateway Park and two other eastside parks, a move that could bring millions of dollars to city coffers in the coming decade.
The City Council is scheduled to vote next week to seek bids from private companies, and drilling could begin by October.
"We need to get our straw in the ground," said Paul Midkiff, a JP Morgan consultant hired by the city to manage future drilling. "We feel the city needs to get its share of the revenue."
