Aug. 18--Beryllium exposure sickened more than two dozen workers at a Brush Wellman plant in Tucson in a health hazard discovered in the late 1990s.

Now, another Tucson company hopes to be part of the answer to safeguarding workers from chronic beryllium disease -- a debilitating ailment linked to exposure to airborne particles of the metal.

Berylliant Technologies, launched by principals of Tucson-based Enki Technologies LLC, has developed a relatively simple kit to test for beryllium on surfaces, much faster and at lower cost than existing methods.
