The city lured the Red Sox with a $22 million stadium. But the facility's financing may throw some costly curves at taxpayers.
If you build it, they will come.
Tourists will come to Fort Myers for reasons they can't even fathom. They'll drive down the palm-lined streets, not knowing for sure why they're doing it. They'll arrive at the gate of the city's new $22 million spring training baseball stadium complex, as innocent as children longing for the past.
"Of course, we won't mind if you look around," the city leaders of Fort Myers will say. "Just stay in our hotels, rent our cars, eat in our restaurants, buy our souvenirs." And the tourists will pass ...
