WAUCHULA, Fla., Aug. 20 /PRNewswire/ -- Peace River Electric Cooperative (PRECO) has restored power to approximately some 18,000 members who lost power due to Hurricane Charley. Another 12,000 are currently without electricity. Of that number, an estimated 8,500 of those are off because there is no power transmission reaching the Peace River Electric substations from its power provider. As the next two weeks unfold, Peace River has set an expectation that hundreds of members may not be reconnected, either because of reconstruction after severe damage or because homes have become uninhabitable.
