QI SAY Cliff Richard had only one backing group, The Shadows. A friend says he had another one as well. Les Bracken, Inverkeithing. AHIS first group (apart from the Quintones while at Chestnut Secondary Modern School) was Harry Webb and the Drifters which formed in early 1958, changing their name later that year to Cliff Richard and the Drifters. Hank Marvin agreed to tour with them, provided he could bring his mate Bruce Welch along. The group then changed its name to The Shadows in July 1959 after the US Drifters took out an injunction against them using the same name.
