Aug. 22--LAKELAND, Fla. -- An improving national economy has pulled Polk County along for the ride, reducing the local unemployment rate for July, a local economist said.
"I think the most encouraging thing is unemployment is down 1 percent from a year ago," said Gordon Kettle, an economist and consultant for the Central Florida Development Council.
The Polk unemployment rate fell to 6.3 percent in July, according to the monthly employment survey released Friday by the Florida Agency for Workforce Innovation. That's essentially unchanged from the revised ...
