We live at a time when science and technology have never been more important. Unfortunately, there is evidence that many in our society are turning away from science and consequently lack the skills needed to be intelligent users of science. Unfortunately, many opportunities in life will be denied to those who are scientifically illiterate. For science to thrive, there must be ways of establishing scientific literacy among all citizens. There must also be ways of educating young people so that they enjoy science, believe in it, and value it in their daily lives.
