I want to purchase an uninterruptible power supply for my system. What should I be looking for in terms of amps and other specifications?

You'll actually run across two types of battery-backup devices. A true uninterruptible power supply (UPS) uses a battery all the time, and constantly recharges from your electrical outlet's AC power. A standby power supply, often called a standby UPS, is designed to take over if the AC power is interrupted.
