Aug. 25--A $16.5-million federal grant -- the second highest ever received by the University of Rhode Island -- will promote biomedical research at six area colleges and help to secure Rhode Island's foothold in the competitive biomedical field.
The National Center for Research Resources, a branch of the National Institutes of Health, awarded the five-year grant to a URI biomedical and pharmaceutical sciences professor, Zahir Shaikh.
