MONTREAL - Adrian Beltre continued to make his case for the National League MVP award Thursday night, swatting a fifth-inning grand slam off Montreal's Rocky Biddle that put the game on ice for the Dodgers and made Beltre just the 12th third baseman in major-league history to hit 40 home runs in a season.
Beltre, who leads the majors, has an outside shot at becoming the 22nd player in history to hit 50 in a season, especially if he continues his current pace.
He has homered 10 times in the Dodgers' past 15 games, and the Dodgers have 38 games to go.
