PORTLAND, Ore. -- Consumers around the Pacific Northwest will see higher natural gas bills this coming winter as local utilities pass through the increased cost of acquiring gas supplies for their customers' use.
The price utilities pay for natural gas is running almost 20% higher than it was a year ago. The higher gas costs will add to the bills consumers pay this winter. Nationally, wholesale prices have been hovering around $6 per 1,000 cubic feet compared to about $4.75 a year ago.
