HOW very sad Michael Parkinson should feel that, while a comparatively young man of 69, his flirtatious days are over.
Flirting is not, after all, a particularly active sport like rock climbing or bungee jumping or running the marathon. It can be pursued by people of all ages.
Indeed, after nigh on 65 years of practice at it myself, I find it is best carried out in a sedentary position, seated at dinner or across a lunch table, assisted by a bottle of St Emilion or a glass of cold champagne. It can just as happily be enjoyed over two pints in the pub.
It is a perfect occupation for such occasions, in every way ...
