CORVALLIS - Shhhh. Can you hear them? Can you hear those pounding footsteps?
"Sure do," confessed Ryan Cole, one of three candidates in the race for the Oregon State football team's tailback job, the one left vacant by the early departure of Steven Jackson to the National Football League.
"Every day either the media is asking about it or somebody's talking about Steven being gone."
For good reason.
In the last two of his three years in an OSU uniform, Jackson was the Pac-10 Conference's leading rusher, plowing first for nearly 1,700 yards and then for almost 1,600 more last season.
