ST. LOUIS _ A group of unassuming cells growing in laboratory culture dishes are now caught in the glare of a political spotlight: Stem cells.

For some the cells hold promise for curing previously hopeless diseases. For others, they are moral and ethical landmines threatening to destroy the boundaries between right and wrong.
