2004 SEP 4 - (NewsRx.com & NewsRx.net) -- An 81-year-old Rialto man became the fifth Californian to die of the mosquito-borne West Nile virus, health officials said August 11, 2004.
Richard Shaddox died August 10, 2004, after being hospitalized for nearly a month. He was stung on the back of his neck outside his home July 4, his wife Yvonne told officials at St. Bernardine Medical Center.
Shaddox, who had been ill with symptoms of diabetes, suffered from a stiff neck, inability to walk and eventually became incoherent, hospital officials said.
