Aug. 27--State parks officials unveiled a $10.8 million plan for reviving Charles Towne Landing, the troubled West Ashley historic site known as the birthplace of South Carolina.
The plan presented Thursday calls for giving people more things to see, like a historically accurate 17th-century village, and more to do, like making candles and clay pots the old-fashioned way.
"You'll be transported to 1670s South Carolina," said Phil Gaines, assistant director of the state Department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism. "It's more than just experiencing. ...
