Bishop Sudarshana Devadhar summed up his beliefs during his final service as pastor of Trinity United Methodist Church.
"If we are faithful to God, he will be faithful to us," Devadhar told about 75 people Sunday at the church in Clay.
That philosophy has guided him from a Christian upbringing in India to his position as a bishop in the United Methodist Church, the third-largest Christian denomination in the United States.
"God has not let me down," he said about a week before taking over as spiritual leader of about 600 churches with more than 900 clergy and 113,000 members in New Jersey.
