September is the month for early risers as far as the brighter planets are concerned for only the outer worlds of Uranus and Neptune are really visible in the mid-evening sky.
Distant Pluto is sinking rapidly into the western horizon and so is hardly visible now.
Using binoculars or a telescope, look for Uranus and Neptune near to the south-eastern horizon in the constellations of Aquarius and Capricornus, respectively.
