SONY ELECTRONICS' FIRST SYSTEM TO USE MICROsoft's Windows XP Media Center Edition 2004 was worth waiting for. The $1,949 (without monitor) VAIO Digital Studio PCV-RZ44G is housed in a traditional tower, but it has a few media tricks up its sleeve.

Despite its shape, the PCV-RZ44G says "living room" more than many Media Center PCs we've seen. Behind separate doors on the front panel, you'll find DVD [+ or -] RW, CD-ROM, and floppy drives, as well as a flash-card reader. Front-mounted inputs include three USB ports, one i.Link (FireWire) connector, RCA jacks, and an S-Video hookup. In addition, you'll find a cable input on the rear panel.
