Aug. 30--In the wake of the spike in oil prices, major department stores, cash-and-carry and discount store operators as well as shopping centres are now focusing intently on cutting their energy bills.
Rangsit Plaza Co, Central Pattana Plc, Robinson Department Store Plc, CenCar Co, Siam Makro Plc and The Mall Group are spending more than 200 million baht in total on energy-saving programmes intended to cut their yearly bills by 5-15 percent.
But most of the measures are short-term such as reducing air-conditioning temperatures, turning off lights in some unused areas or changing control valves and room thermostats.
