Aug. 29--Plans for thousands of homes are miring the Scripps Florida project in a debate over how big the biotech community needs to be and what it should include.
On one side are those who say the two-part project has ballooned from Scripps' original request for 500 acres for laboratories and offices and now includes thousands of homes the research giant's president says are unnecessary. Others say the project was intended as a "biotech village" and won't reach its full potential if it's too small and lacks housing, shops and schools.
