BOULDER -- Well into the 2003 football season, well into his and his team's autumn of shared discontent, Bobby Purify visited his position coach at the University of Colorado and asked one simple question:
"Coach, you want me to come back next year?"
Extremely thankful he was seated, a stunned Shawn Simms composed himself and answered, "That's up to you. . . . But of course I do."
Then, Simms - CU's second-year running backs coach - offered advice that apparently injected Purify with renewed purpose and clarity as he began rehabilitating a season- ending high ankle sprain.
