The Art Institute of Chicago announces the exhibition of one of the world's most famous and most reproduced paintings,"A Sunday on La Grande Jatte," (1884) by Georges-Pierre Seurat. The painting is of an island just beyond Paris' city limits. "Seurat and the Making of 'La Grande Jatte'" presents 130 paintings and works on paper, including 40 that were related to Seurat's painting. It showcases the transformation of his techniques from conte crayon (a soft black drawing tool) to oil sketches to full-sized paintings.
