Recently, I wrote about specialty scissors for home-sewers, and this week I'll address the subject of rotary wheel cutters, a popular alternative to scissors. They're a particular favorite of quilters and crafters, offering quick, accurate cutting for straight edges and multiple layers, as well as curves.
Rotary cutters, which resemble pizza cutters, should always be used with a special self-healing mat. This has a composition that makes cutting lines less visible, and it protects both the cutting surface and the tool's sharp blade.
