Q. I know you must have answered this question many times before, but I am a transplant from New Jersey. I now live on the Outer Banks of North Carolina and need to ask how I can get rid of moles and voles in my centipede grass. Several friends have used different methods, including traps, that were supposed to eliminate the critters but nothing worked. - William M. Filowitz, Martin's Point, N.C.
A. First step is to try to get rid of the moles, since voles use mole runs as express lanes to the closest plant roots. Traps are a waste of money. If you want to be a pioneer, go out very quietly early in the morning or evening, when moles do most of their rooting. ...
