Aug. 30--Fort Wayne International Airport has only had a discount airline for three months, but it already has had an impact many area travelers would miss if they had to return to life without the low-cost air service.
On June 1, ATA Airlines, the nation's 10th largest carrier, began offering four daily flights from here to Chicago's Midway Airport aboard Saab propeller aircraft.
In exchange for an incentives package worth about $2.4 million, ATA agreed in March to serve Fort Wayne for at least one year. Competition from ATA encouraged other carriers serving Fort Wayne to lower their fares, and the number of passengers ...
