TOKYO, Sept 8 Asia Pulse - Panasonic Communications Co. plans to expand its monthly production of DVD drives for notebook computers from 800,000 units to 1 million units to coincide with the year-end shopping season.

The subsidiary of Matsushita Electric Industrial Co. (TSE:6752) intends to hire more workers to increase output of 12.7mm- and 9.5mm-thick built-in and external drives at its plant in the Philippines.
