Seven years ago, the Navarino Fire Department barely made any money at all from its first annual golf tournament.
Now, the department expects the Sept. 18 event to bring in as much as $10,000. Half of that will go to charity, said Dan Annable , tourney director.
"We had a real hard time the first few years," Annable said. "But last year we had so many teams, I had to turn a couple away."
The captain-and-crew tournament takes place at Midlakes Club golf course with a shotgun start at noon. There is a limit of 36 four-person teams.
