Like virtually every other Republican state senator, Nancy Larraine Hoffmann voted to increase state income and sales taxes last year.
And like the others, she defended the move as necessary to avoid property tax increases to pay for education and health care.
But unlike her GOP colleagues, Hoffmann now faces a Republican primary from an insurgent who made her tax vote a linchpin of his campaign.
In some ways, it should be no surprise. An outspoken and articulate speaker with a personal flair and a knack for making news, Hoffmann has long been a lightning rod.
