WASHINGTON - Private equity juggernaut The Carlyle Group is making its second attempt to enter the hedge fund business.
A little more than a year after selling its hedge fund-of-funds group, the politically well-connected alternatives manager - with $18.4 billion under management in private equity and venture capital investments - is very nearly back.
