Sep. 10--TORRINGTON, Conn. -- City and state officials could have done little, if anything, to reverse a decision by Nidec America Corp. to phase out its Torrington manufacturing operations and eliminate about 120 local jobs, the company's president said Thursday.
Nidec, which locally employed about 200 people as recently as 1990 and traces its roots through the former Torrington Manufacturing Co. and Torin Corp. operations, will phase out local production during the coming two years, said President Thomas Keenan. A continued industry shift away from ...
