Sep. 12--LOTS OF CIRCUS, BUT LITTLE BREAD: It is hard to believe, but there are politicians in New York who seem to subscribe to the ancient Roman emperors' prescription to keep their subjects content and docile: Bread and circus.
And incredibly, today in New York an increasing number of people seem to be faring worse than the ancient Romans.
Certainly, there has been no shortage of circuses in the city -- what with the Yankees and the Mets, the U.S. Open and the Republican National Convention -- but there is far too little bread. There is hunger in New York, and ...
