Sep. 13--GROVE CITY, Fla. -- The real name for the delectable sandwich with steak, sliced cheese or sauce and with or without fried onions is "cheese steak" and definitely not "steak and cheese."
The sandwich had its beginnings back in 1930 with chopped rib eye steak at Pat's Steaks in Philadelphia, but since then, nearly every sandwich maker creates it just a little differently.
Joe Martelli, owner of Phillies Cheese Steaks at Willow Plaza on Placida Road, said he'll make the sandwich just about any way the customer wants it, starting with sirloin steak sliced thin and chopped so you don't have to chew it all day.
