Artists are not necessarily saints, yet as observers of the human condition and as commentators on society, they often play a prophetic role. Not surprising then, that artists, students and intellectuals are often the first people targeted by oppressive regimes.
The creative impulse or inspiration can be likened to the Spirit active within us. Artists are attentive to this Spirit and they have a special responsibility to be the instruments responding to the Spirit, acting as co-creators and moving society towards a more human existence.
They are often accused of having disregard for rules and regulations. This is not because they are innately ornery, but ...
