2004 SEP 20 - (NewsRx.com & NewsRx.net) -- Mississippi health officials reported another death September 1, 2004, from the mosquito-transmitted West Nile virus and two more human cases.
The death occurred in Washington County. The new human cases were discovered in Hinds and Coahoma Counties.
This brings the state's total number of identified human cases of West Nile virus to 17, with 3 cases resulting in death.
This time last year, Mississippi reported 53 human cases of West Nile and one death.
In 2003, there were 83 human cases of the virus in Mississippi and 2 deaths.
