There was a time when it was not so much alternative, as completely wacky. Slowly, as people have grown to understand what the various terms mean, herbal remedies have become more mainstream.
They have proved so popular in recent years, in fact, that every year pounds 126 million is spent on it and now 20 per cent of the population uses a herbal medicinal product at least once a year.
