A long-standing VFW priority goal is garnering more attention in Congress. Upgrading the Montgomery GI Bill--or as VFW would prefer, a complete overhaul of the program--is on the minds of more and more lawmakers as greater numbers of their constituents are being called to duty in the war on terrorism. As of July, at least five GI Bill-related pieces of legislation were pending in Congress.
Two of those--H.R. 1212, the Veterans Education Affordability Act, and S. 55, the Veterans Higher Education Opportunities Act--are most favored by VFW. H.R. 1212 would eliminate the $1,200 buy-in GIs are required to pay to qualify for Montgomery GI Bill benefits. S. 55, which ...
