PHILADELPHIA -- The Salvation Army is celebrating the 125th anniversary of bringing its ministry to Philadelphia. In October 1879, 16 year-old Eliza Shirley introduced this religion -- and its unique mission - to the United States by establishing the first U.S. ministry in Philadelphia.
To mark this historic occasion, The Salvation Army of Greater Philadelphia will host a celebratory dinner on October 5, 2004.
