Aug. 5--KANSAS CITY, Kan.--The Nebraska Furniture Mart officially opened its new Kansas City store Tuesday, but customers couldn't wait.
The first shoppers arrived last Friday, when the store had invited employees of several area companies to visit as a test for its 806 employees and its computerized sales system.
But local radio stations broadcast the news that the $60 million store, five years in the planning and construction process, was open, and the general public started showing up.
"It was like the Friday after Thanksgiving," said Robert Batt, executive vice president of the Omaha-based retail company.
