Aug. 14--TOKYO-- The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) plans to expedite the use of "electric power storage batteries" charged during night hours to prevent daytime power supply shortages, METI officials said Thursday.
Electric power storage batteries, such as sodium-sulfur and REDOX Flow batteries, are charged during off-peak hours, thus allowing users to consume stored energy during daytime hours when demand peaks.
The ministry will consider subsidizing companies that introduce the costly power storage battery facilities as they would help level daily power consumption loads, they said.
