Jul. 20--DON'T KNOCK PREMIUM GAS; ENGINE WON'T--QUESTION: I want to buy a Nissan Murano, but what would happen if I use regular gas rather than premium as recommended by the manufacturer? -- Z.C., Highland Park
ANSWER: It doesn't bother you to purchase a $35,000 vehicle, but paying a nickel a gallon more for gas is a problem? Nissan says you won't damage the engine, but you won't enjoy optimum performance, either, and might experience a slight loss in horsepower as well as some engine knock depending on the quality of the fuel.
