Last summer I wrote about the weeds choking Madison's lakes, and took Dane County Executive Kathleen Falk to task for letting Monona Bay, the lagoon at Vilas Park and other Madison treasures become so degraded. I said then, and I'll say again that the lakes are a big part of what makes Madison special, and we simply cannot permit them to become fouled and unusable.
I'm happy to make an upbeat first-person progress report based on a sail around Lake Wingra, a kayak trip on Lake Monona, a bike ride around Monona Bay, and a run through Vilas Park. There are fewer weeds out there, and in some cases a lot fewer weeds.
