The media has focused on celebrities such as Rush Limbaugh and Ozzy Osbourne in drawing attention to prescription drug abuse, but the problem affects many everyday Americans. According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA), and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), prescription drug abuse has developed at an alarming rate during the last ten years, as evidenced by recent data (as discussed below).
